2011 may be remembered as the year that solar power took hold in the U.S. Oil prices are higher than ever, federal and state incentives favor renewable energy and the effectiveness of photovoltaics and other technologies has increased dramatically in the past couple of years. The biggest obstacles today are the persistent myths about solar power—that it stops working whenever the sun goes behind a cloud, or that it takes a huge array to warm a glass of water. If we can get past the myths, solar energy could be a big part of the solution to our energy problems.
