A good way to gauge the real interest in sustainability projects is to see where investment dollars are flowing. More and more are flowing to solar investments.
IndustryWeek just reported that U.S. venture capital investment in cleantech companies increased 54% to $1.14 billion in the first quarter of 2011. The largest portion of this investment activity was focused on energy and, specifically, on the production of solar panels.
This is consistent with what we are seeing throughout the U.S., as more utilities and property owners are committing to solar power as a growing part of their energy strategies. This high interest is encouraging the solar industry to invest in solar panel production.
At the same time, we at Jones Lang LaSalle are getting more and more inquiries about helping find sites, both ground and rooftops, for solar developments. In fact, site selection and procurement is quickly becoming one of the most important aspects of successful solar projects. It’s no wonder that the need for this expertise is accelerating in the world of commercial real estate.
