I was happy to hear that clients find Jones Lang LaSalle a good source for sustainability news as mentioned in Ainslie McLennan’s (a Director of Property at Henderson Global Investors) article on how to stay on top of the property market. It got me thinking about all the publications I use to keeping up to date with sustainability news and real estate knowledge and how important it is to do so.

Property Week and Estates Gazette  are my daily sources for updates on client activities and the market, while their dedicated sustainability sections are regularly updated with key publications and information on industry best practice. For example, Property Week recently published the news about a new CPD module for sustainability valuations, showing how the issues are fast becoming integral to the value of buildings. The UK Green Building Council’s weekly news round-up is also a great summary of news and stories from the week that can be read on the go.

Responsible Investor is my first point of call for wider information on global responsible investment and I find Building Magazine a good source for innovative ideas, best practice case studies, surveys and keeping up to date on industry key figures such as the Top 50 rising stars of sustainability. Some of the global pioneers of sustainability are tenants of my clients, so it is essential that I know what they are working on and where the industry is going.

Business Green.com and Guardian Sustainable Business are also good quality sources for events, editorials, blogs and thought leadership. A recent article on Microsoft’s commitment to being carbon neutral is a good example of this.

With the sector facing increased regulation, it is essential to know what legislation is round the corner and how it will impact businesses. The Department of Climate Change website lists all consultations and legislation for the UK, but it is also important to keep tabs on European Directives as this is a good indication of what is coming. A key issue for clients at the moment is managing the potential risk of unlettable space beyond 2018 that doesn’t meet a minimum EPC rating.

Contacts in the sector are always on the look out for new sources of inspiration and industry stories. Please feel free to suggest some of your own publications and website sources below and help others stay ahead of the curve.
