About 5% of the energy used in buildings is for heating water.
So, if we are going to focus on water conservation, let’s start there. You’re killing two birds with one stone … saving water and saving energy at the same time. What magic!
And, water-saving solutions don’t need to be expensive. Fix dripping faucets with washers that cost cents, not dollars. A faucet that drips once every second wastes over 3,000 gallons of water per year. That’s enough for 180 showers. That is a lot of water, and a lot of energy.
The idea is to just get started. Once you warm up to the idea of hot water conservation, you can start looking for ways to save water everywhere – hot or cold.
