Understanding your alternative energy options can be daunting. This series demystifies the different sources of alternative energy and provides key points that you should consider when reviewing your alternative energy options. This week’s topic introduces solar energy.
Within recent years, solar energy has gained considerable traction and momentum as a leading source of alternative energy. Solar installations can take many forms, from systems installed on rooftops and carports, to ground-mounted systems, to community-shared “solar gardens.” When considering your solar energy options, keep the following points in mind:
The price of solar systems is at an all-time low, but could go back up again after the federal investment tax credits drop from 30% to 10% at the end of 2016.
You don’t have to buy a solar system to reap the benefits. Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) provide electricity on a $/kWh basis, often well below the utility’s price.
Solar energy provides cost saving and carbon footprint reductions in more states than you’d imagine.
Solar carports are so cost effective that JLL was able to facilitate installations for a client across 150 sites in CA.
